 Veteran
Jess Taylor was killed when his automobile was knocked from the M.K. and T. railroad track about 10 o’clock on Saturday Nov. 2, 1946 near Red Rock. He was 33 years of age and unmarried. He was at the time of his death in the employ of Wiegand Brothers on their oil lease in the eastern part of the county.
Religious rites were performed at McMahan Cemetery "by Elder Richard Cole, a minister of the Primitive Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. J. W. Parker, pastor of the Baptist Church at Gonzales. After that service a group from Bergstrom Field accorded a full military funeral. The casket bearers, color bearers, firing squad, the one blowing taps were service men as was Chaplain Mueller who presented the Flag. Tenderly did these men, still in service, lay to rest their buddy."
"The survivors include these brothers and sisters: B. F. Taylor, McMahan; Bill Taylor, McMahan; Mrs. W. F. Mercer, Gonzales; Mrs. Martha Dinges, Houston; Mrs. John West, Sacramento, California."
