According to his autobiography, Richard Cole joined the Baptists in Mississippi in the fall of 1831 or 1832, baptised by Elder Thomas Baines. (Elder Baines had a son, George Washington Baines, that came to Texas and was a president of Baylor University. A great-grandson was later born in Johnson City, Texas, named Lyndon Baines Johnson.)
