Baker, George Gilbert

George Gilbert Baker
Born 8/13/1926
Died 5/26/1936
"LITTLE GILBERT BAKER DROWNS IN TANK - Gilbert Baker, nine years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker of McMahan, was drowned in a tank near his home Monday afternoon.
Fate of the little lad was discovered by his grandfather, James Baker, who found the clothes on the pond dam where the boy had deposited them before going into the water. The body was soon recovered.
Gilbert left home to visit at the Earl Adamses, near neighbors, but not returning when expected, his parents instituted a search.
Gilbert was exceedingly desirous of learning to swim and his father had promised to teach him as soon as the rains ceased and the weather was favorable. It is supposed that returning home by the tank he tried the water alone.
Funeral services conducted by Elder Richard Cole were held after which the body was consigned to mother earth at Jeffrey Cemetery. (rest of obit too faint to read)"
