 Veteran "Clifton Henry Williams was born in Tilmon, Texas on October 16, 1923. He was the son of Maude Gertrude ("Maudie") Reed Williams and Joseph Henry Williams. Joseph, a World War I veteran, was a farmer. Clifton‘s older sister, Mildred Lucille died at the age of two, in January 1923. His younger sister was Viola, who would marry George Alsmus Jones in 1939, The family lived in the Tilmon community. Clifton attended elementary school in Tilmon and McMahan, and high school in Lockhart. He and his family were members of the Tinney‘s Creek Primitive Baptist Church....
He was shipped overseas in August 1943 and assigned to Company C. 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division." During fighting with the Germans on the Anzio beachhead near Salerno, Italy, Clifton was killed on Feb. 18, 1944, and buried in Italy. "In 1948, Clifton‘s body was disinterred and brought home to Texas. On August 15, 1948 funeral services were held at the Field Funeral Home in Lockhart, with Rev. (sic) E. L. Griffin and Rev. E. V. Horne officiating.... Clifton was laid to rest in the Jeffrey Cemetery in McMahan with full military honors...He had not reached his 21st birthday when killed."
