"MRS. J. O. ABBETT - Mrs. J. O. Abbett died at her home on Pecan St. in Lockhart Saturday October 22nd at twelve o’clock, noon. She had not been in good health for more than a year but was considered in no immediate danger until a few days before she was called away by death.
The body was taken to McMahan Sunday afternoon, the procession leaving Lockhart at 1:30 o’clock and arriving at McMahan Cemetery at three o’clock.
Funeral services conducted by the Rev. A.O. Hinkle, pastor of the Lockhart Baptist Church, assisted by Elder John W. Baker, a minister of the Primitive Baptist Church, and a time honored friend of the deceased.
The pall bearers were Chester Haun, Jno. P. Horner, B.C. Cheatham, Leslie Rennie, John G. Drake, Will C. Horner.
A large concourse of people made up of friends from Lockhart and the McMahan community were present to pay the last tribute of respect.
Many beautiful flowers were placed upon the grave in token of love and esteem.
Mrs. J.O. Abbett, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Blair and was born in the McMahan community, October 17, 1883. She was married to J.O. Abbett Sept. 22, 1901.
At the age of twelve years, she united with the Methodist Church and in 1907 joined the Lockhart Baptist Church of which she was a faithful member at the time of her death.
Mrs. Abbett was a woman who lived her Christianity in her every day life - her religion was without vain show but was always practical. Her death leaves a place difficult to fill.
Mrs. Abbett is survived by her husband, two daughters, Misses Sadie and Ivey, and a son, Orbie. She is also survived by her aged mother, two brothers and two sisters."
