"Elder Mathew T. Baker, 77, died at his home in Lockhart, of a heart attack Friday, February 22, and was buried in Jeffrey Cemetery at McMahan February 23. Elder J. C. Collins conducted services from Field Funeral Home. Mr. Baker had been ill about a year.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Alma Baker of Lockhart; a son, Claude Baker of McMahan; a daughter, Mrs. Henry Adams of Lockhart; a brother, A. J. Baker of Austin; a sister, Mrs. Mary Wright of Lockhart; and half brother and half sister, John Baker of Pasadena and Mrs. Ruby Guthrie of Houston; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Louis Miles, Robert Blundell, Maurice Robuck, Tom Webb, Bill Chapman, and James Chamberlain.
Mr. Baker was born November 12, 1874 at McMahan, son of John W. Baker and Elizabeth Reed. He married Alma McMahan in McMahan December 23, 1896. Mr. Baker was a retired farmer and a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of Luling. He had been a preacher in the church at one time. The past five years he had lived in Lockhart at 1035 Magnolia Street.
Many friends attended the services for Mr. Baker."
